Just a video I found in my collection, not sure where I got it from. Subaru Impreza with a backfire system to eliminate turbo lag. AWD drifting on a mountain pass.

anti-lag sounds like constant backfire.

ITS IS POSSIBLE TO DRIFT OTHER DRIVETRAINS PEOPLE!!! (To all the people that dont seem to think that other drivetrains cant drift besides RWD. this include MR ive had people tell me MR cars cant drift either….)

If counter-steering isn’t a technique used in drift, then all modern competition drifting isn’t ACTUAL drifting… A Powerslide IS a drift.

REAL Drifting is simply getting the car sideways enough to generate the best possible slip angle for a bias ply tire, and was only competitive in motorsports between the 30’s and 70’s. In that case a “Powerslide” or “Power-Over” drift isn’t such a good idea, bias-ply skinnies dont like sudden torque.

Thank Ferry Porsche for popularizing it in the Type 1.

This is Powerslide… Drift is a technique of “control your throttle” and with a AWD you dont have to do THAT much and AWD can’t stay sideway as a RWD and If they want, the AWD, they need t counter-steering…and counter-steering = powerslide.

1. A powerslide is a drift, maybe considered a “bastard” technique, but it is.
2. He’s not really powersliding, how the hell are you supposed to break rear traction when you’ve got AWD, seems like you’d have to start it with steering and weight transfer and THEN power through.

#20 jakejjs on 03.13.09 at 12:36 pm

actually they are all wheel drive…big difference

#21 jakep2007 on 03.14.09 at 4:39 am

actually, no.
i beg to differ. once you understand the concept and are able to drift rear wheel (i know because i do) drifting an all wheel drive car is very basic and easy to do. because you dont have to play with the throttle the same way. you just need a car powerful enough to break loose. it is difficult at first though.

the computer feeds obscene amounts of unburned fuel to the turbo to keep it spinning…
