CNET Review – 2008 Honda Odyssey Touring

imjom shared a video:

CNET EDITORS’ RATING: 6.0/10 Starz
(Good)

The good: The 2008 Honda Odyssey Touring uses an advanced cylinder deactivation system to save gas. The navigation system’s points-of-interest database includes Zagat-rated restaurants. Rear seat DVD is standard.

The bad: The electronics in the Odyssey look thrown together, without any coherent design. The sound system doesn’t offer surround, which would be nice with the DVD.

The bottom line: Even with a redesign, the 2008 Honda Odyssey looks like a minivan from the last century, and its cabin tech barely gets it into this one. But it offers practical and economical transportation for a lot of people.

Specs: Body style: Van; Trim levels: Touring; Available Engine: Gas

But now there’s an all-new 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan overstuffed with features to challenge for the coveted crown.

Honda will launch the new model Odyssey on October 17th.
The all new Odyssey, which is the 4th generation of this model, features a low overall height and its low-floor, low center of gravity package, offering roomy interior space and providing driving performance that transcends that of ordinary minivans. The new model Odyssey is also equipped with cutting-edge safety equipment such as a multi-view camera system.
In the design of the new model, Honda focused on creating an appealing designbased on the concept of “emotive quality” that exhilarates every passenger.
A slimmer design was adopted for the front pillar, and a sense of security and driver visibility were maintained with a clearly wide overlooking view. The three-dimensional V-shaped lines that spread from the front grill to the bonnet also project an image of speed and strength.
The new model Odyssey was equipped with a 2.4L DOHC i-VTEC engine and a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with a torque converter to achieve both advanced driving performance and excellent fuel efficiency of 13.2km/liter that puts the Odyssey at the top of its class.
In addition to drive-by-wire (DBW) control, the new model also features an “ECON Mode” that coordinates the collaborative control of the CVT and air conditioning system to reduce engine burden and thereby support more fuel efficient driving.
Honda plans to sell 4,000 units per month in the domestic market.
